| Off highway
vehicle riders now have a dedicated place to break out their toys and
play. Morrow County's 'off "highway Vehicle Park (OHV) is located in
the Blue Mountains along Highway 207, approximately 32 miles south of
Heppner. Twenty four designated camp sites are available for
self-contained recreational vehicles in addition to tent sites. Sites
are equipped with outdoor fire rings, picnic tables and garbage
containers.
The park has a place where dirt-laden
vehicles can be washed down. This helps reduce the spread of weeds. The
park ahs become so popular Hardman resident Bob Allen maintains a cook
shack there, offering everything from hot dogs to lattes.
The 6,200 acre parcel was made possible
by grants funded by ATV gas taxes and ATV permit fees through other
Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. The money from Oregon
Watershed Enhancement Board funds covers the cost of projects such as
cattle guards or fencing to protect sensitive areas and to develop water
sources for both wildlife and domestic animals.
Snowmobilers and cross-country skiers
will find the park a great recreational place during winters. Hiking,
photography and camping are obvious park activities. Big-game, turkeys
and other wildlife are often seen in the park. There is no charge for
day parking or riding the trails.
OHV riding is a family oriented sport
and machines of all sizes for all ages. all three classes of OHV
vehicles: Quads, motorcycles and 4-wheel drive. Come stay and Play
