BICYCLING THE BYWAYS OF HEPPNER'S CYCLING PARADISE...

Bicyclists familiar with the Columbia Plateau Stage Race or Cycle Oregon who have traveled through

the Heppner Wheat Country are not surprised to

find that Heppner

-the Morrow County Seat, pop. 1500 - serves as the hub for several and varied

trips through Morrow, Wheeler, Gilliam, and

Umatilla counties.

Every recreational bicyclist can find a perfect route, whether an easy loop, an intermediate or challenging day trip, or an overnight excursion to a nearby community. As the map indicates, wide-open space is a significant attraction for riders through rolling hills.

Little traveled secondary roads afford the bicyclist an opportunity to enjoy the scenery that skirts the Umatilla National Forest.

Attention to the noted elevations and the distances will help the cyclist select just the right trip from Heppner.

Bikers are cautioned that most of the highways have little or no shoulder.
